Kihami hunt, 19, a dean’s list students at division county community college, is a standout 6’5 player on the dccc storm basketball team who serves as a role model for other students both on and off the court. With a 3.7 grade point average for the fall 2010 semester and a cumulative basketball point total of 765 as of feb. 18^th, hunt’s academic excellence and athletic abilities attract attention. Recently, he caught the attention of recruiters from the university of North western Ohio who offered him a full scholarship there to play basketball. Named to the 1^st team all freshmen played with the storm in last year’s 2010 NJCAA national championship tournament. “kimani hunt has been a the last week  for us “HIS HIGH STANDARD OF EXECELLENCE HAS HELPED US WIN MANY GAMES,BUT IT’S ALSO HELPED HIM ACHIEVE A LOT OF SUCCESS IN THE CLASSROOM, AND WE ARE CERTAINLY PROUD OF HIM” ken kirk, DCCC’S director of athletics and wellness, agrees. “Kimani is a kind and considerate student athlete. He helps tutor other players who look up to him as an academic leader, he communicates well with other students as well as the storm  fans, and he represents DCCC so well wherever he goes.” Hut graduated from riverside high school in durhan before enrolling at DCCC. He hopes to pursue a career in sports management.

• well graffiti are some issues in my community it makes it look horrible nasty and make people think that we don't take care of our community or city.  poverty is another issue because people that have the opportunity to work or make their life better, they prefer just wasting their time in drinking or gambling and they don't go look for a job.
• what i can do is try to make people think and to make them think better. i should help people paint the walls that has graffiti.

1. one issue that i saw was when the kids were used to sell drugs or get in to gangs.  
2. well i cant do nothing because i don't have the resources that i need. 
3. not really because right here the kids get help from people all around the world. they teach them how to make the right decisions  and to always choose the right because your present depends on your future. in Mexico people cant get the same help because the majority are poor and if the people go that help kids in the U.S are just going to waste their time because the kids are going to do the same thing because that's the only way to live over there.

1.  where i see poverty is when i come to school because i get to pass a metro stop and i see people sleeping there. another i see is when i go to the park i see people sleeping under the benches and asking for money or food.
2. well i know that Latinos are mostly the poorest because they migrate to the U.S and thinking that they will find a better life, but sometimes they don't get lucky because when they go to ask for jobs they need papers or security numbers. 
3.  what surprise me is when i saw that Latinos were the poorest because i didn't think it was gonna be like that because i think blacks are the poorest because i see them more on the streets.

·                     HAVE A SPECIAL AREA FOR STUDYNG WHERE YOU WON’T BE DISTRACTED.

·                     STUDY IN SMALL ”CHUNKS” AND TAKE REGULAR BREAKS. TRY NOT TO CRAM.

·                     HAVE A REGULAR STUDY ROUTINE TO MAKE STUDYING A HABIT.

·                     STUDY WITH FRIENDS OR GROUP AND SHARE INFORMATION.

listen and ask questions. Still afraid of looking stupid? Don’t worry about it. If you’ve got a question about something, chances are your classmates do too.

-          Review your notes and assignments before class.

-          Give your teacher your full attention and concentrate on what is being said.

-          Relate the topic to what you already know and listen for main ideas.

-          Make eye contest with your teacher and takes notes.

-          Ask questions if you don’t understand, but try not to interrupt your teacher. Raise your hand or wait until your teacher pauses or asks for questions.

Some experts say the difference between good students and poor students isn’t mainly ability. Instead, it’s how students organize themselves to use their abilities.

A little organization can produce amazing results!

GET ORGANIZED:

ü  Have a homework agenda or scribbler to keep track of your assignments, and always carry it

ü  Ask the teacher for some outside help when the classroom explanation is not acceptable for you.

ü  Use scribblers to put you notes in, and keep them organized

ü  Have phone numbers for classmates, especially of one who will be your “homework buddy”. This is someone in your class who collects hand-outs and assignments for you when you are absent form school. You can borrow your buddy’s notes when you return to school, and you can do the same for this friend.

ü  Ask questions when you are unsure of something.

ü  Pay attention in class as it is very easy to let your mind wander. Take notes, concentrate on what is being said; it will be easier to absorb the info being presents.

ü  Keep your bookshelf, desk and kitbag neat.

ü  Be prepared for each class, bringing the materials you need to class (including pencil and paper).
